What is the procedure to replace Karta after previous Karta's death in a HUF account?

After the death of the Karta, the new Karta and the co-parceners must submit the following documents to Jainam: -


Identification Proof

All of the following documents:

  1. PAN card copy of the HUF with seal and signature.
  2. Self-attested PAN card copy of the present Karta
  3. New Karta passport-size photograph

Address Proof of HUF

Address proof of the HUF with seal and signature. It can be the latest transaction copy of the bank statement or passbook

Address proof of the Karta

Self-attested address proof copy of Karta. Address proof can be one of the following:

  1. Aadhaar (masked Aadhaar) To know more, see How to download a masked Aadhaar card?, driving licence, voter ID or passport.
  2. In case of a bank passbook or bank statement, it must reflect the new Karta's name and HUF details.


Certificates and Declarations

  • Original or notarized copy of the death certificate of the previous Karta with the HUF seal and signature.
  • Self-declaration form (PDF) if the Karta is a female.
  • Account modification form with the HUF seal and signature.

Bank Proof

For account modification in such a case, Karta should obtain a banker verification letter from the HUF bank by providing updated details to the bank. In the provided banker verification letter, the details of the new Karta should be shown.
