Why has a declared dividend not been credited to the bank account, and how can the payment be traced?

Dividend payments may remain uncredited due to incorrect or outdated bank details, a failed electronic transaction, or incomplete investor information. The first step is to verify dividend eligibility and payment status with the company or its Registrar and Transfer Agent (RTA).

How to check the company's RTA details:

The RTA's contact details are available through the official stock exchange websites:

On NSE:

  1. Search for the relevant company and select the equity segment.

  1. Navigate to Corporate Disclosures → Company Directory → Transfer Agent Details.

On BSE:

  1. Search for the relevant company and select the equity segment.

  1. Navigate to Corporate Information → Registrars.

Once the RTA details are located, contact the RTA or the company to confirm the payment status, identify the reason for non-credit and understand the procedure for resolving the issue.

What happens if the dividend payment fails?

Where electronic payment cannot be completed, the applicable regulatory framework provides for payment through a payable-at-par warrant or check. The company or RTA can confirm the applicable process and any action required to receive the outstanding dividend.

For physical shareholdings, ensure that the prescribed investor details, including bank account information and other applicable KYC details, are updated through the relevant process. For demat shareholdings, bank details should be updated through the depository participant (DP).

If the dividend remains unpaid or unclaimed, contact the company or RTA to check its status and the applicable procedure for claiming it.
