When will the dividend be credited, and why might the credited amount differ from the declared dividend amount? |
A declared dividend is generally credited directly to the primary bank account registered with the demat account on the company’s specified dividend payment date. The actual payment timeline depends on the company’s declared schedule and applicable regulatory requirements. The dividend entitlement is calculated based on the number of eligible shares held as per the record-date criteria and the dividend declared per share. For instance, if a company declares a dividend of ₹2 per share and 1,000 shares qualify for the dividend, the gross entitlement would be ₹2,000. Dividend eligibility is linked to the ex-date and record date. Under the current settlement framework, shares purchased before the ex-date generally qualify for the upcoming dividend, subject to the applicable settlement and record-date requirements. The amount finally credited may, however, be lower than the gross entitlement. TDS or other applicable statutory deductions can reduce the net amount received, making the bank credit different from the dividend amount initially calculated.
