Can minor spelling corrections be updated through name modification? 

Yes. Minor spelling corrections can be processed through the name modification process, subject to submission of valid documentary proof. 

Documents Required (any one of the below): 

  • PAN Card 

  • Aadhaar Card 

  • Passport 

  • Driving Licence 

  • Voter Id Card 

  • If name change is due to marriage 

  • Marriage Proof/Updated Passport 

  • In case of official gazette name change 

  • Gazette Copy (Publication of name change in official Gazette) 

Examples: 

  • Minor name corrections that may be facilitated: 

  • From “R. S. Shah” to “Ramesh Sunder Shah” 

  • From “Paresh Patil” to “Paresh Dashrath Patil” 

  • Major corrections that may not be facilitated: 

  • From “Paresh Patil” to “Paresh Patel” 

  • From “Shekhar Rajan M” to “Rajan Shekhar P” 

Note: Minor name corrections (that are obvious, easily explainable, and raise no doubt) may include the following cases: 

  • Correction of spelling errors, if any 

  • Expansion of the name by incorporating the full name and/or inclusion of the middle name 

  • Abbreviation of the name
